Unlike others, this was a wedding with a ‘difference’, as two IT professionals on Sunday entered into wedlock by planting a sapling.
This unique wedding ceremony, held at the Sri Kanikaparameshwari Temple in Malleswaram between Vidya and Sujay was commemorated with both performing ‘ Sasyaanjali’, whereby they planted a sapling.
This sapling would be handed over to the Spoorthivana Project, a 400-acre plot in the Thippagondanahalli reservoir catchment area, belonging to the Bangalore Water Supply & Sewerage Board (BWSSB).
Even as the bride and groom entered into wedlock, they planted a sapling to spread awareness on the need to preserve the green cover in and around the City.
“Sasyaanjali is a programme where we are planting a sapling, which would blossom into a full tree like our lives blossoming into ever green future of togetherness,” the newly wed couple said as they handed over the sapling to Vijay Gore, former additional chief secretary.
The Spoorthivana Project at the Thippagondanahalli reservoir catchment area today has 1,300 trees which were planted since 2005 when the project commenced. Promoters of the project are keen to rope in more couples to take part in such wedding where saplings would be planted to protect the city’s depleting green cover.
