Thousands witness shobayatra of dashamantapas

People flooding towards the City amidst anxieties of enveloping clouds, colourful lighting piercing the darkness of night, an alternative Amaravathi on earth causing an illusion of another heaven and their bloody end...
That was how snow-city Madikeri presented itself to the rest of the world during the ‘shobayatra’ of ‘dashamantapas’ held as part of Vijayadashami on Sunday night. The unique idols of gods and goddesses, karaga dance, band troupes and other attractions added to the celebrations of the procession.

‘Srikrishna’s Geetopadesha’ by Pete Srirama Mandir, ‘Vishwaroopa Geetopadesha’ by Dechuru Sri Rama Mandir, ‘Arunasura Vadhe’ by Chowdeshwari Temple, ‘Deviyinda Mookasura Vadhe’ by Kote Mariyamma Temple, ‘Sindhu Daityana Vadhe’ by Kote Mahaganapathi Temple, ‘Bhramarambikeyinda Arunasurana Samhara’ by Kanchi Kamakshiyamma Temple, ‘Bhandasurana Vadhe’ by Kundurumotte Chowti Mariyamma Temple, ‘Deviyinda Chanda-Mundara Samhara’ by Kodandarama Temple, ‘Bhagavatiyinda Mahishasura Samhara’ by Bhagavati Temple, ‘Shumbha-Nishumbhara Samhara’ by Dandina Mariyamma Temple...

Various such manifestations attracted thousands of devotees in the flashing procession.
The procession that was flagged off after 10 pm, assembled at General Thimmaiah Circle and pleased the mass.
Karagas of Dandina Mariyamma, Kote Mariyamma, Kanchi Kamakshiyamma and Kundurumotte Mariyamma accompanied the procession till its culmination.

The orchestra staged by Sangama troupe of playback singer Rameshchandra was successful to capture the attention of many people at the Ranga Vedike of Gandhi Maidan till the wee hours of Monday.
Dollu kunita, pooja kunita, nandi kolu kunita, yakshagana and other events held as part of the ‘Janapada jathre’.
Deputy Commissioner K R Niranjan flagged off the procession, by offering pooja at Omkareshwara temple.
