EVENTS IN THE CITY
Nayaka Gayaka, a musical tribute to Dr Rajkumar is being organised on October 22 at 6 pm at Palace Grounds, Mekhri Circle. Entry to the event is free and arrangements have been made for the venue to be covered as a protection against rain.

Nayaka Gayaka”, a musical tribute to Dr Rajkumar is being organised on October 22 at 6 pm at Palace Grounds, Mekhri Circle. Entry to the event is free and arrangements have been made for the venue to be covered as a protection against rain.

Singers for the evening include Archana Udupa, Surekha, Vishnu, Gangothri Rangaswamy (who sings just like Dr Rajkumar), Amit among others. An added attraction will be Bollywood artistes Kishore Sodha (trumpet player), Gopi (percussionist) and DJ Gopu, who will all pay a tribute to Dr Rajkumar.

The opening act will be IDL Blind Band, Karnataka’s only versatile singers and musicians who are visually challenged, who will sing and play Dr Raj’s film songs. The musical sequences would be interpersed by dance sequences from Dr Rajkumar’s films specially choreographed for the evening by the well known dance group Shadows. The grand finale would be an exclusive performance of the new age techno sound on Dr Rajkumar’s songs specially remixed by DJ Gopu of Goa and additional live percussion by the ace percussionist Gopi from Bollywood.

Music festival
Veena Doreswamy Iyengar Memorial Trust is organising Ninaada, a six day music festival from October 22 to 27. The concert starts everyday at 6.30 pm at Ananya Sabhangana, 13th Cross, 4th Main, Malleshwaram. The following is the schedule of concert: Vamshidhar V - flute (Oct22), Amrutha Venkatesh - vocal (Oct 23), Pattabhirama Pandit - vocal (Oct 24), Amith Nadig - flute (Oct 25), Sahana S V - veena (Oct 26), Abhishek Raghuram - vocal (Oct 27).

Hindi play
Kalayan Theatre Group, Bangalore’s oldest Hindi theatre group is staging, ‘Jo peechche rah jaate hain” written and directed by Mathura Kalauny at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall on November 2 at 7.30 pm. Tickets priced at Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 300 are available at www.kalayan.org (online booking), New Arya Bhavan sweets (all outlets), K C Das, St Mark’s Road and Super Market, 5th Avenue, Brigade Road.

Devotional music
Academy of Music presents, “In the life and times of Krishna”, an evening of devotional music by Pandit Anant Vasidyanathan on October 24 at 7 pm at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall, GDP Extension, Vyalikaval. Lalitha Ubhaykar, musician and Chanchalapati Dasa, Vice President, ISKCON, Bangalore will be the guests of honour.

Literary seminar
NIAS Literary, Art and Heritage Forum and Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi is organising, Sangam: interactions of poetry and theatre on October 25 and 26 at National Institute of Adanced Studies, Indian Institute of Science Campus. The semianar aims to bring practitioners of theatre and dramaturgy together with poets and academics.  The objective is to reflect, from traditional and contemporary perspectives, on the ways in which theatrical practices and poetic forms have drawn from each other. Spiritual discourse
The Bangalore Pyramid Spiritual Society is organising a spiritual discourse on the ‘Science of Meditation’. It will conducted by Brahmarshi Subhash Patriji, the founder of the Pyramid Spiritual Societies Movement, India. The discourse will be held at the Mangala Mantapa, NMKRV Women’s College, Near Nanda Theatre, Jayanagar III Block on October 22, 5 pm onwards. For details contact B Sivaramappa at 9449831788.

Felicitation to CGA
Smriti and Canara Union arts section will felicitate C G Anantha Swamy for his contribution to Hindustani classical music on October 28 at 5.30 pm at TSR Hall, Canara Union, 8th Main Road, Malleshwaram. The felicitation will be followed by a vocal recital in memory of Pandit Rama Rao Naik and Ustad Khadim Husain Khan by vocalist Pandit Ganapati Bhat Hasangi. He will be accompanied by Pandit Ravindra Yavagal (tabla) and Vyasamurti Katti (harmonium)

C G Anantha Swamy is a well-known figure in the Hindustani classical music scene of Bangalore for the last 40 years. In addition to having leant music himself and playing the harmonium, he has founded many music sabhas like the Hindustani Sangeet Kalakar Mandali, Kalashree, Smrithi and Shruti, encourages new-comers, organises concerts regularly since the last three decades. He is entering his 70th year but his enthusiasm continue unabated. Pandit Ganapati Bhat Hasanagi is the disciple of Pandit Basavaraj Rajguru, the maestro from Dharwad whose gayaki inspires from Kirana, Gwalior and Patiala Gharanas. It was a 'chance encounter with his Guru in 1966 that turned the course of Ganapati's career.
