TENNIS / ITF Futures
Super Eitzinger wears crown
From Sajith B Warrier,DH News Service,Bellary:
Even rain couldn't deny Rainer Eitzinger a maiden ITF Future title as the Austrian posted a 6-3, 3-6, 3-6 victory over Croatian Ivan Cerovic in the finals of the Bellary Open 2007 which concluded at the Police Gymkhana courts here on Sunday.

The final, originally slated for Saturday, was stopped mid-way through after skies opened up with Eitzinger having already taken the first set by virtue of a break in the sixth game. Cerovic had hold his service to win the first game and Eitzinger, trailing 15-40, came back to win three points in the next game when the downpour started. The rain might have brought some respite from the heat, but the organizers had a tough time to get the courts dry before deciding to postpone the final to Sunday.

Regaining rhythm
The only beneficiary seemed to be Cerovic to who took the break to regain his rhythm and broke Eitzinger in the seventh game before holding his serve to take the second set. But missing from his arsenal were those bullet like serves and crisp returns which had carried him to the finals.

Close decider
It all boiled down to the decider were Eitzinger came back firing. Cerovic was seen struggling with his returns and he was lucky to hold his serve in the second game when he was trailing 15-40.
But lady luck deserted him again as Eitzinger, as is his wont, fired a couple of aces and raced to a 4-2 lead from which he didn't look back. Though Cerovic held his serve to reduce the deficit, once he erred with his returns, Eitzinger romped home with ease. He became richer by $US 1950 and 24 ATP points.

“I am not used to playing in such fast courts. This is my second final in a fortnight and last time I missed the title by a whisker. So this time I was determined to win,” said a beaming Eitzinger.
Result: (Final, prefix denotes seedings): 3-Rainer Eitzinger (Aut) bt 4-Ivan Cerovic (Cro) 6-3, 3-6, 6-3

Gulbarga event
The ITF caravan now moves to the Chandrasekhar Patil stadium in Gulbarga where Eitzinger is seeded second, adds DHNS from Gulbarga.

With the pull out of two Romanians who played in the Bellary leg – second seeded Teodor-Dacian Craciun and Adrian-Vasile Gavrial, Eitzinger is seeded second and India's Sunil Kumar Supaeya is seeded eighth. India 's Kaushik Raju takes on Serbian Robert Belak in the main draw which starts on Monday.

Seedings: Pavol Cervanek (Svk), 1; Rainer Elitzinger (Aut) 2; Ivan Cerovic (Cro), 3; Dekel Valtzer (Isr), 4; Darko Madjarovski (Srb) 5; Alexey Kedryuk (Kaz) 6; Marek Semjan (Svk) 7; Sunil Kumar Sipaeya (Ind) 8.
