Hitachi has introduced a data storage system so simple and so intuitive to install, use and manage that anyone could master and benefit from its vast capabilities, according to a press release. The Hitachi Simple Modular Storage Model 100, is designed to fulfill the requirements of small and medium-sized businesses with burgeoning data growth and data protection requirements and enterprises with distributed branch offices looking for simple-to-manage, “service-less” storage offerings that are easy to integrate with Microsoft® Windows and Symantec Backup Exec™.
Optical mesh network
Ciena® Corporation (NASDAQ: CIEN), the network specialist, recently announced that VSNL, a leading communications solutions provider and member of the US $29 billion Tata Group, has deployed Ciena’s CoreDirector® Multiservice Optical Switches to create the first nationwide intelligent optical mesh network in India. Fully operational with live customer traffic, the new network enables VSNL to offer its customers maximum network reliability and service agility using automated service restoration and provisioning. The new network will also be used by Tata Teleservices (TTSL).
The mesh design enables the network to survive multiple failures caused by either natural disasters or man-made issues, such as accidental fiber cuts. Based on CoreDirector’s industry-leading, standards-based control plane, VSNL’s mesh network automatically routes traffic around network failures based on its real-time knowledge of the network’s available bandwidth and ability to find the best alternate routes. Based on this network intelligence, Ciena’s CoreDirector restores traffic within milliseconds, instead of the hours or days typically involved in manual restorations.
Optical transport
Tellabs has launched the Tellabs® 7100 optical transport system (OTS). The Tellabs 7100 OTS and the Tellabs® 7100 Nano™ OTS provide an integrated platform for convergence of networks, enabling service providers to better utilize their infrastructure by handling different network requirements on a common platform. The integrated platform reduces capital expenditures, as a result of fewer platforms required for service delivery.
Service providers can improve operations by reducing the consumption of power, space and fibers. The system comprises the compact new Tellabs 7100 Nano OTS and the Tellabs 7100 OTS, both available with SDH capabilities by year-end.
The capabilities of the system assure availability of next-generation services, so users get reliable video and data at the speed of light. And with new unified SDH and native Ethernet switching fabric and enhanced Ethernet aggregation capabilities, service providers can deliver these services even more cost-effectively.
