The Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken objection to the Election Commission’s (EC) direction to the state government asking it to remove photographs of ministers from the official website of various departments.
In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalaswami, the BJP said that these directions have not been issued to the government of Himachal Pradesh which would also go to polls next month.
Letter to CEC
“Why such instructions have been given when websites are not at par with the advertisements in print and electronic media? We fail to understand why such instructions have been given specifically to
Gujarat,”Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman Prakash Javadekar said in a letter issued on behalf of the party to the Chief Election Commissioner.
Permission
“The Government Of India Websites and the PSU’s carry photographs of Central ministers. This should also not be permitted.
If Ministers of State Government can make an impact on the electorate through official websites, can the Central Ministers not do the same?,” he asked.
