Sleuths of the CBI probing the mysterious death of Rizwanur Rahman interrogated his widow Priyanka Todi at an undisclosed location here on Tuesday and sent the SIM card, mobile phone and computer of the deceased IT graphics designer to a laboratory for examination.
“We have interrogated Priyanka Todi at an undisclosed location. She has given all the details to the CBI and we are looking into them,” CBI (Special Crime Branch) joint director Arun Kumar told reporters at the West Bengal CID headquarters Bhabani Bhavan here.
After officials from the state CID questioned her, Priyanka gave a statement to the CBI investigators for the second time following death of her husband who died under mysterious circumstances last month.
Priyanka who had earlier met representatives of the State Women’s Commission (SWC), reportedly told them that she was not certain on whether Rizwanur's death was a murder or suicide.
While conceding that she was saddened at the loss of her husband, the claim of SWC members that Priyanka gave a clean chit to police saying the cops never harassed her or her husband, triggered another furore with Rizwanur's family alleging that it was purely doctored by the Commission members. According to the CBI , the agency had sent Rizwanur's SIM card, mobile phone and computer used by him at his workplace to the laboratory for examination.
“We have taken the SIM card from the CID and will send it to the laboratory to check if any message has been deleted from it or not. We have also seized the computer used by him,” he said.
Mr Kumar declined to divulge any details about the investigation, but said the CBI was probing all possible angles to ascertain whether it is a case of homicide or suicide.
“We have not detained anybody so far in connection with the case,” he said. Earlier in the day, Mr Kumar and other CBI officials had gone to the state CID headquarters and discussed the case in detail with both the Additional Director General of Police (CID) Bhupindar Singh and Special Inspector General of Police (CID) Niraj Narayan Pande.
A CBI team, along with a computer expert, visited Rizwanur's workplace Arena Multimedia, and examined his computer there for the second day on Tuesday.
However, sleuths' efforts in gaining vital clues about Rizwanur from the general public came to a stand still when the numbers provided by the agency remained switched off till Tuesday noon.
