Like it did recently on the issue of the Indo-US civil nuclear deal, the Congress has decided to bring out a booklet to explain to the people the fine points associated with the controversial Sethusamudram project.
The contours of the booklet were finalised by the AICC publicity committee at a meeting on Tuesday attended by its members, including party general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
The booklet would “expose” BJP’s claims on the matter, the committee chairman and AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh said after the meeting.
“We respect matters of individual faith and there is no question of seeking any proof (about the existence of Ram)… but the booklet would aim at correcting the absolutely wrong perception on the issue created by BJP,” he said.
The BJP is now opposing the project which it had promised in the BJP election manifesto and also was part of the NDA’s common minimum programme, he said.
He said Rahul Gandhi gave some good suggestions on the matter, and added, “Young minds do come out with great ideas, new ideas.” However, he refused to comment on the issue of re-alignment of the project, saying the matter was pending with the SC.
