Rashtriya Heddari Horata Samiti will be organising a 24 hours bundh on NH-17 on October 30 to protest against government’s lukewarm attitude towards the pathetic condition of NH 17, informed the Convener of the Samiti B Govindraj Hegde at a press meet on Wednesday.

Addressing media persons, Mr Hegde informed that ambulance, milk delivering vehicles and newspaper carrying vehicles will be exempted. He also said that the protest will be intensified if the government fails to meet their demand of immediate repair of NH-17 without further delay. This bundh is supported by all political parties, Lorry Operators Association, Auto rickshaw Association, Rotaries and Lions Clubs of the undivided Dakshina Kannada district.

Former Medical Education Minister V S Acharya,  Udupi MLA Raghupathy Bhat, Brahmavar MLA Jayprakash Hegde and JDS Udupi Distrcit President Deviprasad Shetty were present at the press meet.

Bus operators       support

The Canara Bus Operators’ Association has decided to support the NH 17 bundh called by ‘Save NH 17,’ Udupi district, on October 30. The road between Mangalore and Byndoor has become totally unmotorable. But still, the road has been neglected by National Highway Authority of India and the National Highways.

In this backdrop, all the buses operating on the coastal route between Mangalore and Byndoor will not operate on October 30 between 6 am to 7 pm. All the bus owners are requested to co-operate.

The public have been requested to co-operate and the inconvenience caused is regretted, stated a press release issued by Canara Bus Operators’ Association President K Rajavarma Ballal.
