Though the preparation for the forthcoming Hampi Utsav is going on, the people of Hampi are not feeling that the stage is being readied for the grand event in full swing.
The lack of enthusiasm and interest among the organisers may be the reason for the dull atmosphere in the erstwhile capital of the Vijayanagar Empire.
Every year, the preparation for the Utsav will begin one month earlier. Till now, the road leading to Hampi has not been repaired and lighting have not been arranged. Even the cleaning of surroundings in the village is yet to be undertaken.
The preparation works which have to be executed under the leadership of officers of respective departments, without the participation of elected representatives might be the reason for delay on taking up works to organise the Utsav, the villagers opine.
The disinterest being shown by the officers and executing works reluctantly, one may wonder whether the preparations would be over within 10 days or not. People are of the notion that whether the Hampi Utsav will depict the glory of Vijayanagar Empire or it will be a utsav for the name sake.
Till now, the materials required to building the stage for the utsav have arrived. But no other developments than this have taken place, with hardly 10 days left for the utsav. The Hampi Road is damaged due to incessant rains this year and has to be repaired soon. The preparations works carried out in hurry will not have any durability. The infrastructure return to their earlier shape just 15 after the utsav, the villagers regret.
The removing of weeds has been started from Tuesday at the venue of exhibitions. The number of workers is also very less. With hardly 20-30 workers available, how can the cleanliness programme be taken up in the whole utsav, the people ask.
The streets of Hampi which used to glitter with pearls, gems and ornaments, are now filled with heaps of solid wastes. The Hampi Development Authority has also become inactive in maintaining cleanliness in the historical place. The tourists who visit this heritage site, have to struggle hard due to lack of basic amenities, the Hampi gram panchayat vice president said.
The book stalls which used to be set up near the main stage, is now planned to put it up beside the exhibition ground. That means, the books stall, this time will be two kilometres far from the main stage.
Because, people might not walk two kilometres just to buy books. Moreover, there will be no programme at the main stage during day time.
At that time, people could spare morning hours for buying books, if the books stall was put up near the main stage. The sudden shifting of book stall may create confusions among people.
