A mega medical camp will be organised by Lions Club Mangalore Metro Gold in association with Melantha Family of Mogarody at Padmunja of Belthangady taluk on October 28, informed Lions Club Mangalore Metro Gold President Ln K S Upadhyaya.
Speaking at a press meet here on Thursday, he said about 500 patients will be provided check-up and medical treatment free of cost for various ailments concerning eyes, ENT, heart diseases, diabetes, cancer and information on AIDS.
Blood donation camp
Blood donation camp will also be organised simultaneously, wherein about 100 units of blood will be donated to a blood bank. Eminent doctors from KMC and Fr Mullers will participate in the camp.
On the occasion, two purified drinking water machines will also be donated to two local schools by the Lions Club. Moreover, 50 saplings will be planted as part of the ‘Save Environment’ programme.
About 150 spectacles will be distributed on the occasion and eye operations will be conducted at Fr Mullers free of cost. As a special gesture, poor patients who require surgery, a sum of Rs 4,000 will be deducted from the surgery cost.
Lions District Governor Venkatesh will inaugurate the camp while Lions Club Mangalore Metro Gold President K S Upadhyaya will preside. Fr Muller Medical College Dean Dr B Sanjiv Rai, MLA S N Prabhakar Bangera, Vice-District Governor Mohan Kamath, Chidanand Rao, Ramanna Melanta and Sujatha R Shetty will be the guests.
Lions Club Mangalore Metro Gold has spent more than Rs 50,000 in the past two months towards AIDS awareness and diabetic detection camps, education for poor children, career guidance, peace poster contest for children, child care and environment conservation programmes, he added.
Lions Club Vice-President Gopal Krishna Melanta, Directors B Ramachandra Rao and Nithin Chandra were present.
