Flaying the constitution of a committee to solve the Jamma Bane row in Kodagu, former ministers and MLAs said “there was no need for a committee.”
Addressing a press meet here on Thursday, former ministers M C Nanaiah, M M Nanaiah, and MLAs B A Jeevijaya, K G Bopaiah, C S Arun Machaiah called upon the people to support the bundh call on November 1 for injustice done to the Kodagu district, by boycotting all the programmes of Kannada Rajyotsava.
Former minister M C Nanaiah said “JD (S) government had solved the problem of Jamma Bane issue. There was no need for another committee. There is no need to bring in any changes. In this background, it is not possible to accept the newly constituted committee.”
However, there is a need to solve the issue of tree right ownership. But the issue of encroachments in Dakshina Kannada and Chikmagalur districts should not be included in the issue of tree right ownership, he added.
Mr Nanaiah said State government has been neglecting Kodagu and has never considered it as part of the State.
MLA B A Jeevijaya said “in the democratic set up we have to follow the rules laid down by the government. We do not want to dishonour the State government by holding bundh on Kannada Rajyotsava day. We are forced to call for bundh as we have not received any solution to the problem for the past two decades. To open the eyes of the government, bundh is being organised.”
MLA K G Boapaih said “in spite of change in government, there is a need to implement the pro-people programmes of the previous government.”
He said former chief minister had announced to withdraw two circulars on Jamma Bane and tree right ownership.
In this background, district administration has the responsibility to maintain the status quo.
To a query, Mr M C Nanaiah said “if the government fails to respond to the bundh call on November 1, then we will meet Governor and explain him the gravity of the situation.”
He called upon the people to extend their support to the bundh called by Kodagu Asthitva Horata Samithi by boycotting all the Rajyotsava programmes and observing it as Black day.” He also called upon the business establishments, private buses, autorickshaws drivers to support the bundh and urged the parents not to send their children to schools.
