GANDHINAGAR GRAPEVINE GANDHINAGAR GRAPEVINE
B S SRIVANI

The ladies’ man!
Actor Digant is a lucky man. First, he serenaded NRI gal Jahnu in ‘Miss California’, then wed Pooja Gandhi in ‘Mungaaru Male’, breaking Ganesh’s heart. He also won Ramya’s heart in T N Seetharam’s ‘Meera, Madhava, Raghava’. As if these ‘conquests’ were not enough, he is now trying to covet the affection of two new ladies! Starring in Shivaraj Hoskere’s film, ‘Taare,’ Digant sat on the sets wearing a cat-that-swallowed-the-canary look.

And why not?
One of his leading ladies was also present. Urvashi Solanki, a Gujju based in Mumbai, was on hand while the other heroine is being finalised. The producers are hoping to rope in Smitha who is debuting as heroine in Kavitha Lankesh’s ‘Avva’.

Digant will be seen as a village lad who has the support and affection of a village belle and a city lass. He sets out to pursue higher studies in the city and predictably comes across many challenges. Poet Doddarangegowda will be seen as a lecturer while Rahul of ‘Ramya Chaitra Kala’ will be seen as a college student in this film produced by agriculturist Basavaraj from Honnali.

Totally off beat
After several characters with curious names (the latest being Loose Mada which Yogesh made famous in Duniya), here is yet another one — Porki. While the decline in taste in naming characters is lamentable, it’s also interesting to note that filmmakers are trying to bring colloquial language much closer to people. This character makes its entry in Ashwin’s Hogi Baa Magale which is yet another film comprising newcomers. Santosh Kumar is playing this character and as the name suggests, he is a rough character who does not take ‘no’ from anyone. When asked why such a role for a debut, the actor is quick to retort: “It is always nice to start different and get noticed by people than starting the conventional way, which in most cases, does not bring the desired recognition.” Some logic, this!

Ganesh out of Mungaaru Male II?
Is Ganesh not a part of ‘Mungaaru Male-II’ anymore? If sources are to be believed then yes, Ganesh is doing the sequel to ‘Mungaaru Male’ but with director Yogaraj Bhat after six months. Meanwhile, the first ‘Mungaaru Male-II’ which was to be produced by Rockline Venkatesh and directed by Preetham has been abandoned after Ganesh allegedly refused to do the film. Apparently, Ganesh is not keen on doing Preetham’s version as he did not find the character to his liking. Now Preetham is all set to write a new story for Rockline Venkatesh. For more details, watch this space.

Bitten by the movie bug
The film bug has completely bitten journalist Ravi Belagere. A self-confessed movie aficionado, Belagere had always dreamt of ‘making it big in films.’ And his dreams are coming true now. After honing his skills on the small screen, he went on to appear in Ganda, Hendthi and a Boyfriend before taking up Varasdara, a gangster flick inspired by, you guessed it, Godfather, wherein he plays the title role. He is now acting alongside Shivanna in Madesha as Sarkar. Now comes the icing on the cake. Come November 22, Ravi Belagare will be producing and directing CM in love, with the tagline Radhike Ninna Sarasavidene. The film, allegedly based on recent and current political developments will star Vijay in the title role. Actresses Ramya and Bhavana have been finalised but who plays which character is yet to be known.

Other members of the cast are yet to be finalised. But Belagere need not worry. He has invited people from all walks of life to make use of this chance to act in his film. The eligibility criteria — people should be above 50 years and should closely resemble the current crop of our political leaders from various parties.
