British Airways (BA), which operates daily on the Bangalore-London route, will fly Boeing 747s instead of the current B777s from Monday offering 175 moreseats .
Amanda Amos, BA area commercial manager, South Asia, told Deccan Herald after unveiling the new business class “Club World” here on Thursday that while B777 consisted of 225 seats, B747 would have 400 seats. “This shows the demand from Bangalore”, she added. Seventy of these cabins will be in the Club World class.
but the new configuration on these flights will be done from April, 2008.
Amos said the airline, which operates 43 weekly schedules to five Indian cities from London, was looking forward to add more sectors and more flights to the existing destinations. “US earns us the maximum revenue. However, outside US, we are focussing on India. The new terminal at Heathrow airport in London, built exclusively for BA, would be operational from March,2008.”
Sriram Narayan, manager, trade sales of BA, said the airline has ordered 12 A380s, world’s largest passenger aircraft. First of these planes will begin service in 2010 and BA may look at flying A380 to India. The airline has also ordered 24 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
BA has invested in the Club World at a cost of 100 million pounds and each new seat will be 25 per cent wider offering more privacy, flat bed, personal in-flight entertainment, mellow personal lighting etc. The Club World class will be available progressively across the airline’s fleet of 57 B747s and 43 B777s.
The Club World class will have 70 cabins in B747s but the new configuration in flights to India, except Delhi, will be available from April,2008.
