Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt on Thursday challenged before the Supreme Court his conviction by the TADA court in the 1993 Mumbai serial blast case for possessing arms without license and sought regular bail pending disposal of the case.
Mr Dutt has been sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment under the Arms Act. He was earlier granted interim bail by the apex court on the condition that he would surrender after getting a copy of the judgement.
While seeking bail, Mr Dutt said that the reasoned judgement gives him a clean chit as far as any nexus between the arms delivered to his house and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s brother, Anees, was concerned. Mr Dutt, who surrendered before the TADA court after receiving the 4310 page judgement on October 22, has been lodged in Yerawada Jail in Pune.
The court has held him guilty of possessing an AK-56 rifle and a pistol. He was acquitted of charges under the TADA.
“The actor had nothing at all to do with the blasts conspiracy or even under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act,” special judge Kode had ruled.
