The mystery shrouding the death of computer graphics designer Rizwanur Rahman took a critical turn on Thursday with the victim’s family challenging the veracity of the purported transcript of Rizwanur’s mobile call list aired by a private TV channel a couple of hours before his body was discovered beside the railway track.
Rizwanur family also denied the latest allegation being levelled against them that they had accepted Rs 6 lakh from industrialist Ashok Todi to pave the way for mutual separation between Rizwanur and Priyanka Todi. “This is a deep-rooted conspiracy hatched by vested interest and a section of the media here to divert attention from the emerging truth behind Rizwanur’s death, mislead the ongoing CBI investigation and tarnish the image of our family,” Rukbanur, elder brother of Rizwanur said at his residence in east Kolkata.
“This is part of an effort to portray his death as suicide and not murder which we have been suspecting,” he said. “We would raise the matter with the CBI to ascertain if the same has been leaked from the agency or whether the CBI would send a rejoinder to the channel for obtaining a copy of the same,” Rukbanur alleged.
The news channel claimed that it had documents showing details of the mobile phone call list of Rizwanur who had reportedly called up some friends and his former girl friend prior to his mysterious death. CBI DIG Satish Golcha said the agency questioned Pompi Roy, Rizwanur’s former girl friend and Pradip Todi, brother of Rizwanur’s father-in-law Ashok Todi for the second time.
Pompi could provide vital clues as the computer designer reportedly called her up five times in the last few hours before his death. Rizwanur was frantically trying to contact Priyanka’s parents and finally sent some SMSs to them as they reportedly declined to speak to him.
When asked about the transcript, Rukbanur said it was neither authenticated by any neutral agency nor been given to them. Claiming Priyanka was aware of Pompi and her relationship with Rizwanur, Rukbanur quoted her as saying “I have nothing to do with the past life of Rizwanur”.
