Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, UNPA spokesperson and Samajwadi Party (SP) General Secretary Amar Singh said the alliance was open to any party that remains “equi-distant from the BJP and the Congress”.
Mr Singh along with UNPA Chairman and SP National President Mulayam Singh Yadav, party senior leader and cine actress Jayaprada arrived in Bangalore late on Thursday to participate in the 75th birthday celebrations of former chief minister and state SP President S Bangarappa scheduled to be held at Kanteerava Stadium on Friday.
He said Mr Gowda had been invited to the birthday celebrations of Mr Bangarappa and the UNPA was open for talks with the former prime minister.
Mr Amar Singh predicted that “deal good” stand of UPA government would eventually result in its fall. The 123 agreement was against the interest of the country and the UNPA would oppose it both inside and outside the parliament, he said and added that the alliance would coordinate with the left parties on the issue.
Mr Singh came down heavily on senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily for dubbing the Left parleys with the UNPA as a “desperate measure”.
He said it was not surprising to hear such comments from “power brokers and shady characters” and added that “people still remember about Moily tapes”.
He said the Samajwadi Party and the Left have always been together on issues concerning the common man and there was nothing new in the parleys.
To a query he said the while the SP would not like mid-term polls, it was prepared the face the same to counter the “imperialistic forces”.
He said the UNPA was very concerned over the security of AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalitha and would approach the Prime Minister in this regard.
On former UP minister and sitting SP MLA Amarmani Tripathi, Mr Singh said “There are many courts left for clarifications as far as Tripathi is concerned and he should be given that opportunity”.
