Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly N Dharam Singh on Thursday indicated that he might call a Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting to ascertain the views of legislators regarding formation of government in the State.
When his reaction was sought on the meeting held by senior JD(S) leader M P Prakash regarding formation of a coalition government with the Congress leaders in Delhi, Mr Singh said he was aware of the development. “I will gather the opinion of the party legislators on the issue,” he observed. However, Mr Singh hastened to add that the issue of formation of government was left to the high command.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader D B Chandre Gowda expressed the view that the Congress should take the initiative to form the government.
“The high command is seized of the matter and it should send positive signals without much delay,” he remarked. He also met Mr Singh to convey his opinion.
Referring to the observations made by the Governor Rameshwar Thakur that it was up to the political parties to come up with required numbers to form a government in the State, Mr Gowda said it was clear that there is a chance to form the government. “When the field is still open, being a major party, the Congress cannot ignore the chances to form the government. It is not proper to allow the people to suffer under the President’s rule. We should explore all possibilities to form the government,” he opined.
