Nobel Peace Prize awardee for 2007 and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) Managing Director, Dr R K Pachauri on Thursday expressed concern over the slow research and development in the energy sector.
Dr Pachauri, who made a presentation on the challenges faced by India, emphasised the need for cooperative research in these areas.
"There is a wide range of options available, which include efficient use of coal, renewable and nuclear energy to meet the energy needs," he said.
He also presented a broad picture of some of the challenges that India is facing, which include rise in sea level at the Sunderbans, deforestation and desertification, threat and loss of rare wildlife species like the tiger, loss of Biodiversity, precipitation changes, air and water pollution.
Congratulating Dr Pachauri on winning the Nobel Peace Prize, the Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands said that bilateral, economic and commercial relations are common in both countries with areas of water management, environment, agriculture and food processing, services and technology.
