There is a need to have a re-look into the pros and cons of Dalit movement being progressed for the past three decades, said Karnataka Dalit Mahita Okkuta Convener Indira Krishnappa.
She was speaking after inaugurating a three-day State-level study camp for the members and office bearers of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Ambedkarvada) at Kadri Ashrama School here on Friday.
Dalit movement has given voice to the oppressed, backward and the poor by challenging feudalism and vested interests. But it is a shocking factor that the same Dalits have stepped into quarrels seeking separate mutts and pontiffs for different sub-categories among themselves, she said and emphasised on the need for retrospection.
The organisation that marched towards vanishing castes with the slogan that “give us caste, give up religion, promote humanity”, is now shattering itself in the name of subcastes among Dalits.
There is a need for internal reservation but the Dalit movement should not got split amidst this, she advised.
Dalit litterateurs are involved in fighting for the membership of academies. They are framing plots and political influence for this. Standing atop the giant tree called Dalit movement, they
are cutting its branch, Ms Indira criticised.
Speaking on the occasion, Dalit movement leader B Krishnappa said that he has lit the lamp of struggle in the huts of poor. See that it is not vanquished, he advised.
