Four young film-makers from India have been selected for the UK Environment Film Fellowships for 2007 for their work on subjects that primarily focus on environment-friendly and sustainable use of natural energy sources.
Inder M S Kathuria has been chosen for the fellowship for his film In Their Elements that will focus on innovative Solar-Wind Hybrid System (SWHS) that is well suited for harsh weather conditions of the mountains, while Miriam Chandy Menacherry has got the honour for A Light Burns In The Village which will capture the efforts of villagers to generate electricity through bio-diesel in a remote region of rural India.
Praveen Singh gets the fellowship for The Future Under Our Feet which would look at geothermal energy resources and its relevance in the energy mix for India, and Sashi Sivramkrishna for Building A Green Future... Now that will explore the larger issues and challenges facing the Indian building industry in moving towards a more environmentally sensitive architecture.
Announcing the fellowships, British High Commissioner to India, Richard Stagg, said that the fellowships would be worth Rs 8 lakh each, and the amount would be used by the chosen film makers to make documentaries on energy conservation.
