The “Vision Statement” will also seek to build strategic relationship well beyond trade and investment, German Ambassador to India Bernd Mutzelburg said at a seminar organised by the CII here on Saturday.
Ms Merkel’s visit would provide an impetus to Indo-German partnership in areas of strategic importance and economy, he added. Ms Angela Merkel is arriving here on October 29 for a six-day visit. In response to a suggestion, Mr Mutzelburg agreed that Germany should make its visa regime flexible to attract Indian students and researchers.
India-EU trade
Referring to Indo-German cooperation on international economic issues, he said Germany and India could work together towards a successful outcome of the Doha Round WTO talks.
The cooperation will be expanded through a comprehensive India-European Union trade and investment agreement, which is under negotiations, Mr Mutzelburg said.
The present $14 billion Indo-German bilateral trade is expected to double five years, according to the consultancy firm KPMG’s projections.
