A showcase of diverse genres of music from across the country, from the mystical Bauls of Bengal, to Sufi singers of Punjab, the legends of Hindustani, Carnatic, Ghazal, Bollywood and Fusion performed on one platform capturing the essence and entirety of Indian music at ‘Visions of India’--A Tribute to the Nation, produced by renowned violinist Dr L Subramaniam on Saturday.
The musical event was organised to raise funds for Comprehensive Trauma Consortium, an NGO specialising in pre hospital care-CTC Sanjeevini by providing ambulance services.
The programme was conceived written and composed by Dr L Subramaniam.
The Percussion Symphony, a composition by Dr L Subramaniam enthralled the audiences with 15 renowned percussionist from around India participating in it. The piece which begin with solo strains weaved into a rich symphony reaching a crescendo.
Evolution
The audience also got a taste of the difference genres, bringing alive its history, evolution and style onstage. Gangubhai Hangal, the 94 year old who is a exponent of the Kirana Gharana brought the Hindustani influence to the concert while legendary Carnatic Vocalist Dr Balamuralikrishna added flavour of the south. Pankaj Udhas’s ghazals and a medley of bollywood numbers by playback singer Kavitha Krishnamurthi were also a treat for the audience.
The folk singers added to the rich melody. Purana Das Baul and Dibyendu Das brought onstage the tradition of the Bauls-mystical musicians from Bengal with colourful ensembles and ektaras.
Sufi singers
The sufi singers and musicians from Punjab-the Wadali brothers to the guardians of the oral tradition-the Langa Magniar artists from Jaisalmer --Sikandar Khan Langa, Atta Mohamed Langa, Asin Khan Langa added to the diverse music.
The concert closed with Vision of India-a composition featuring all the artists and musicians in a creating a musical piece for a united country.
All the artists were felicitated by Governor of Maharashtra SM Krishna and Sri Sri Balagangadharanatha Maha Swamiji, Chief Pontiff of the Adichunchungiri Mutt.
