Members of the Karanataka State Anganawadi Workers and assistants protested in front of Kolar Zilla Panchayat accusing Mulbagal Taluk’s Child Development Officer N Sharadamma for mentally harassing the anganawadi workers without any reason. The forum also urged for her suspension with immediate affect.

Accusing Sharadamma of mentally torturing the workers,  they said that Manjula, an anganawadi worker of Pombarahalli attempted a suicide fed up by her harassment and was admitted to the hospital with cardiac problems. Same was repeated with Mandikal worker Gopamma and the mental torture went a step higher with N M Srirangamma who was abused her in foul language.

They urged that the case against Shardamma should be filed under the scheduled caste atrocity act and Government should give compensation to Manjula and Gopamma.

They also said that the anganawadi workers should be given wages along with regular workers.

Later, they submitted a memorandum to Zilla Panchayat President A C Nagaratna and the president assured of a through investigation and proper action against the officer.

Zilla Panchayat members Yashodamma and Muniraju were present on the occasion.

M Gopal, Munichowdappa, Suresh, Kamalabai, Eshwaramma and other were present on behalf of Anganawadi Workers and assistants’ association.
