Globalisation is a big challenge to the ideologies upheld by Indian Constitution, said Tenkanidiyur Government College Lecturer Dr Gananatha Ekkar.
Speaking on “The new economic policy of India and the impact of globalisation” during the second day of a State-level study camp of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) held at Kadri Ashrama School on Saturday, he said globalisation has been axing the indispensable principles of Indian Constitution like equality and right against exploitation.
Globalisation is uprooting the schemes that are meant for equality including reservation system. The argument that globalisation denies caste system is also a total myth. It is only ‘modernisation’, which has helped a little to discourage caste hierarchy, Dr Ekkar observed.
Stating that the factor modernisation is being mistaken for globalisation, he said modernisation and globalisation are completely different.
Modernisation is a process of incorporating the elements of scientific development in the human life. But globalisation is nothing but Americanisation, he pointed out.
If modernisation is perceived in its correct sense, we are not against to that. But we have to oppose globalisation, which is a destructive phenomenon. Just observing the magnanimity of the IT development in India and a large percentage of illiteracy existing in the country, one can decide how dangerous the globalisation is, Dr Ekkar said.
He noted that the move of introducing English from the I standard also has a plot of suppressing the cultural interests of the society.
Destroying a particular language is nothing but destroying the entire life and culture. Globalisation does not have cultural interests, he stressed.
Dalit leader S R Kollur presided the session. The three-day study camp being held for the members and office- bearers of DSS, will be concluded on October 28.
