“Human resource can make or mar any organisation,” said Mangalore University Registrar Dr K Sundar Naik.
Speaking at the state-level seminar on ‘Perspectives of human resource development in hospitality sector’ organised by Moti Mahal College of Hotel Management on Saturday, he said the essence of all human resource development is to unleash human potential in every individual. The country is witnessing phenomenal growth in service sector in general and hospitality sector in particular, which is due to the opening up of the economy, growth in foreign tourists and surge in domestic visitors. An organisation can earn competitive advantage through retaining highly competent and flexible human resource, he pointed out.
Training in HRD must ensure that the employees acquire up-to-date knowledge, skills and result oriented ethical values. HR must ensure talent management, employment management and employee retention management.
However, he advised that any foreign model of human resource development can not be adopted as it is to the Indian context since HR is region specific. But still HRD is necessary to finetune human resource, he added.
Laxmi Memorial Education Trust President A J Shetty also spoke.
The inaugural session was followed by sessions on the topic ‘Career prospects in hospitality industry and aptitude required to join’, ‘Human resource techniques adopted in today’s hospitals’, ‘Emerging challenges in human capital management’ and ‘Career growth in fast food industry’.
Laxmi Memorial Education Trust Administrative Officer K K Nayak, college principal Abhijit Mukherjee and others were present.
