AT A GLANCE

SWARA LAYA YATRA FROM NOV 11
Sangeet Bharathi Foundation will organise Swara Laya Yatra, a series of music concerts from November 11 to December 16 on all successive Sundays. Except the last event, all concerts will be held at Town Hall, while the final function will be held in the premises of University College, Hampankatta.

Informing this at a press meet here on Saturday, the Foundation Vice-President Narendra L Nayak said the inaugural concert ‘Bhairav-Kalyan Utsav’ would be a day-long event, which is scheduled on November 11 from 9 am to 9 pm. The unique concert will feature the performance of five renowned artistes. This will include the performances by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, a Rajastani folk troupe and Ustad Mashqoor Ali Khan. All events will commence at 6 pm.

The final concert will bring Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain and Sarangi artist Ustad Sultan Khan which will be from 5.30 pm, Mr Nayak informed.


Educhem  programme held
The Association of Chemistry Teachers of Mangalore University organised a programme named ‘Educhem’ for the staff and students of Mangalore University Colleges from October 22 to 25. According to a press release, a group of meritorious students and accompanying staff visited various research institutes and were exposed to recent advances in the scientific world. They were familiarised with various scientific instruments used in the field of research.

City team for  national contest
Lourdes Central School, Mangalore team comprising Adith Jagadish (Captain), Nihal Manjunath, Yashas Salian, Rammoham Bhandari and Akash H will participate in the Under 14 category in the National Level CBSE Inter-school Chess Championship being organised by Modern School in  Chennai from October 29 to November 3. According to a press release, the team had won the Runner up place in the South Zone Chess Championship organised by DRS International School in Hyderabad from September 19 to 23 by securing 20 points in 6 rounds. Beside the team championship, Adith Jagadish will also participate in the Individual CBSE Chess Championship, informed a press release.

Walkathon in Manipal
Manipal, DHNS: Manipal University Volunteer Services in association with MSAID (KMC International Centre Students) and Manipal Foundation, Bangalore is organising a walkathon within the University campus on October 28 at 8.30 am at Manipal University building, informed a press release.
