Let the hospital be built, but let the beds will be vacant. That was how Union Minister Oscar Fernandes wished after laying foundation stone for Sippani Charitable HIV/AIDS Hospital building under the aegis of Manava Seva Trust at Parvathipur layout on the outskirts of Chikmagalur on Saturday. He also laid foundation stone for Blood and Eye Bank building, Samudaya Kendra and Surendra Sippani Kindergarten buildings.
The hospital is going to be one of the biggest hospitals in the country. The initiative to begin school for the orphans is also appreciable, he said.
Elimination of AIDS is possible only through social responsibility and mass awareness. Youth and poor are becoming the victims of AIDS, and hence there is a need to create awareness in them particularly, Mr Fernandes said.
Trust Chairman G C Sippani presided.
He said if government encourages, there are plans to establish about 35 such hospitals across the country.
