The three-day visit of AICC general secretary Veerappa Moily to Hyderabad, the first one after taking over the party affairs of AP, has left one section of the party in raptures while another section is feeling let down.
Moily showered praise on Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, saying he was a cut above the rest in the country and that he could well be a role-model for implementing development and welfare programmes.
The performance of the government was “excellent and overwhelming” he said. He pointed out that 90 per cent of election promises had been fulfilled and by the time the state goes to polls in 2009, the rest of the programmes would be completed.
One promise that has remained unfulfilled is that of creating a separate Telangana state. Moily stance that the issue would be settled by a second States Reorganization Commission has has rattled the pro-Telangana sections in Congress which are demanding that the party high command fulfil this demand before the next elections or the party would pay a high price for it.
