Arun outclasses hapless Katrela
MS Arun scored a lop-sided 4-0 win over Vinay Katrela in the 38th Senior State-ranking snooker tournament at the KSBA hall on Saturday.

NMKRV emerge triumphant
NMKRV College for Women defeated Maharani’s Art’s and Commerce College by 10 wickets to grab the Bangalore University inter-collegiate cricket tournament for women at the National College grounds on Saturday.

Brief scores: Maharani’s: 48 all out in 14.2 overs (Pushpalatha 15; Joshna 2-2, Vanitha 2-1, Sowmya 2-5, Subharna 2-10) lt to NMKRV: 49 for no loss in 6.2 overs (R Mala (n.o) 25, Vanitha (n.o) 20).

JIRS boys clinch under-19 title
Hosts Jain International Residential School, Bangalore, edged out IVY League Academy, Shampeerpet (Andhra Pradesh) 3-1 to win the boys under-19 title in the CBSE South Zone hockey tournament in Bangalore on Saturday.

For the victors, Praveen, Sakshar Sindwad and Nirat D Mehta were on target. Ashim Raza Ravi scored the lone goal for the vanquished.

Joshi wins open event title
Young Khalin Joshi, with a 147 gross, won the open event title in the two-day John D’Souza (Sr) Memorial golf tournament at the KGA on Saturday.

Open event: Khalin Joshi (147) 1; Udayan Mane (152) 2.

Team (Open): Khalin Joshi and Amitabh Poddar (305) 1; Udayan Mane and Nihal Sabharwal (314) 2.

Kamal stars in BILS victory
A splendid bowling effort by Kamal helped BILS beat V V Puram Law College by five wickets in the inter-law college tournament on Saturday. Kamal picked up five wickets for 25 runs to bundle out V V Puram for 122 and later, BILS coasted to victory at the loss of five wickets.

Brief scores: V V Puram Law College: 122 all out (Jagadish 26, Kamal 5-25) lt to BILS: 123/5 in 24.5 overs (Asif 37, Aravinda 2-15).

ITC overcome Hoskote SC
Riding on two first-half goals, ITC edged out Sports Club, Hoskote, 2-1 in the ‘C’ Division football league at the ITI ground on Saturday.

Senthil handed the winners an early advantage with a sixth minute strike and Parthipan doubled the tally eight minutes from break. Mohan Kumar slotted the lone goal for Hoskote SC in the 66th minute.

Sophias trounce Clarence
Ruchini John excelled with a 20-point effort as Sophias routed Clarence 31-3 in the Clarence High School and Copa inter-school basketball tourney on Saturday.

Results: Sophias: 31 (Ruchini John 20) bt Clarence: 3 .HT: 19-1; FAPS: 17 bt St Joseph’s Boys’ School:16, HT: 2-6.

Volleyball league from today
Controllerate of Inspection Electronics (CIL) will take on ITI in the opening match of the Senior State ‘A’ Division volleyball league which gets under way at the Lalbahadur Shastri First Grade College grounds on Sunday.

BU tennis team selection
The Bangalore University will conduct a selection trials to pick men’s tennis team on November 5 for the South Zone inter-university tournament. Trails will be held at Central College cricket ground. Details can be obtained from R Muni Reddy, Director of Physical Education, Ph: 94483-73863.
