Roddick out of Paris Masters
World number five Andy Roddick has pulled out of the Paris Masters Series tournament starting on Sunday, organisers said on Friday, reports Reuters from Paris.

His withdrawal was expected after he had returned to the United States following his first-round defeat by Frenchman Fabrice Santoro at this week's Lyon Grand Prix.

Indian women crash out
India failed to advance in the next round of the AFC Women’s Asia Cup qualifiers after losing 1-4 to Iran in their away match in Tehran  on Saturday, reports UNI from New Delhi.

It was heartbreak for the Indians who had won their home match 3-1 in Gurgaon on October 20. Iran went through to the second round, winning 5-4 on aggregate.

Ashutosh to lead India
National Champion Ashutosh Singh will lead a six-member Indian team, including two women players, in the second tennis series against Pakistan next month, reports PTI from New Delhi.

Delhi’s Vivek Shokeen, Sunil Kumar Sipaeya, Aditya Madkekar, Parija Maloo and Sonal Phadke are the other members of the team, which would be coached by former Davis Cup captain Akhtar Ali.

State girls enter semifinals
Karnataka girls came up with sterling show to storm into the last four stage of the 18th Junior National Throwball Championship for boys and girls in Nagpur on Saturday, reports DHNS from Bangalore. Karnataka boys qualified for quarterfinals.

Results:
Girls (quarterfinals): Karnataka bt Goa 2-0 (25-03, 25-7); League phase: Karnataka bt MP 2-0 (25-7, 25-2); Karnataka bt Haryana 2-0 (25-7, 25-12); Karnataka bt Bihar 2-0 (25-11, 25-10).

Boys: Karnataka bt Chandigadh 2-0 (25-8, 25-10); Karnataka w/o West Bengal.

Shukla named Bengal skipper
Laxmi Ratan Shukla was on Saturday handsomely rewarded for rejoining the mainstream of the Indian domestic cricket after leaving the ICL, as he was made captain of the Bengal team for the upcoming season, reports PTI from Kolkata.

Shukla had created a stir after joining the ICL during its launch, but took an abrupt U turn a few days later to announce that he was severing ties with the nascent league.

Razzaq changes retirement plans
Pakistan all rounder Abdul Razzaq said on Saturday he was going back on his decision to retire from international cricket, reports Reuters from Lahore.

"I have taken back my retirement decision on the advice of my club officials. I will resume playing domestic cricket from Nov 1," he told Reuters.

AITA to conduct Level I course
The All India Tennis Association (AITA) will conduct a Level I course for coaches at the KSLTA Tennis Stadium from November four to 10, reports DHNS from Gulbarga.

Interested candidates may obtain details from the BM Ramesh, course co-ordinator.
