‘Janapada Jatre’ was launched in October 2006 as part of Suvarna Karnataka celebrations scheduled to be held on every second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays. But it was not held in the last four last three-four months.
On Saturday, the Kannada and Culture department had scheduled its grand come back by organising a two-days ‘Janapada Jatre’ extravaganza at Lalbagh. But the programme could not take off due to heavy rains. Karnataka Natak Academy chairman Srinivas G Kappanna, who is coordinating the Jatre programme, said that 190 young artists are participating in the event, which is oriented to showcase the next generation folk artists.
Commissioner of Kannada and Culture department Shivananjaiah said that the Jatre programmes are scheduled to be held till the end of November 2007 and that the Government was also interested in continuing it further.
‘Janapada Jatre’ gives a rare opportunity for Bangaloreans to enjoy the essence of folk art through performances of various folk forms from across the State, such as Kamsale, Veeragase, Dollu Kunita, Karadi Kunita, Nandi Kolu to name a few.
