With indications of the governor’s nod for the BJP-JD(S) government, local legislators are eager to know whose names will figure in the new cabinet.
The million-dollar question is: will two-time minister Alangur Srinivas from the JD(S) be in the cabinet again?
Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy may appoint Alangur Srinivas as a cabinet minister, since the JD(S) in Kolar needs a capable leader to strengthen the party here.
If the BJP decides to strengthen its party in Kolar, then B P Venkatamuniyappa from Bangarpet, S N Krishnaiah Shetty or MLC D S Veeraiah would be in the race for a cabinet berth.
S N Krishnaiah Shetty, who has been working for the party in Kolar, is said to be extremely close to B S Yediyurappa, who is likely to be the next chief minister. Shetty is already said to be lobbying for a cabinet berth.
If B P Venkatamuniyappa does not make it to the cabinet, then he is likely to be made the president of any of the well-known boards or corporations in the State; but the legislator is said to have been putting pressure on the State leaders through his godfathers.
MLC D S Veeraiah had been hoping for a cabinet berth even earlier, and had tried to pressurise the party into appointing him. Now, with the chances of a BJP-led government getting better he has been trying to get the ministry by lobbying with national general secretary Ananth Kumar and other influential leaders.
If the cabinet berth is decided on the basis of caste, the choice will be between Alangur Srinivas(Vokkaliga quota) or Venkatamuniyappa (Dalit quota). If BJP senior leader amd former minister D K Shankaramurthy cannot make it to the cabinet, then Krishnaiah Shetty (who belongs to the Arya Vaidya community) may just get lucky.
