Removing the sun control film from vehicles will definitely improve the probability of checking crime. But, is it not ridiculous that the Government allowed such films to be used in vehicles all these years. Even without such films, it is well known to the public as well as the police that, thousands of litres of contraband arrack, drugs and cattle are transported everyday throughout the State and across the Karnataka-Kerala border and only a few lame ducks are caught, photos taken and given wide publicity in the print and electronic media. As long as you have corruption in the traffic and police department, these measures are going to be only a publicity gimmick by all those concerned to show their awareness to the reality of crime in our city today.
In the hot humid conditions of Mangalore, anyone who can afford an air-conditioner to his vehicles would love to have such screens to keep the interiors cool as also to maintain a certain amount of privacy. Is it such a serious offense to have opaque screens to your vehicles? Is it the only or the major cause for increase in crime in our cities today? It is for those who are implementing these ridiculous laws to create panic in the mind of the public.
When you have not been able to bring down crime under normal conditions, opaque screens will not make any significant difference in crime rate. The priority is to bring down corruption and be dedicated and committed to your duty. These acts only felicitate increase in corruption and abuse of power. Only time will tell.

Introduce more domestic flights
A press note released by Bajpe Airport authorities, says that they expect to come out of the red and earn profit during the financial year 2007-08. They also expect to earn gross profit of Rs 17 crores during the financial year 2008-09, with the existing flight services. Further a new service is also going to be introduced on the Kuwait-Mangalore sector, thrice a week very shortly. This is a very happy news for the people of South Kanara and Udupi districts, particularly those who are settled in the gulf. They can come to Mangalore without changing the flights anywhere. At the same time, Bajpe airport authorities may also take steps to introduce new flights on domestic routes like Mangalore-Delhi, Mangalore-Hyderabad-Kolkatta-Guwahati, Mangalore-Ahmedabad-Jaipur, in the new year. This will help Mangaloreans and also people of North Malabar area of Kerala.

What happened to Kasturi channel
We have many Kannada TV channels like ETV, Udaya, Suvarna and TV-9. Recently a much publicised ‘Kasturi Channel’ has stepped in. But strangely this channel is not available in this part of the State. I happened to watch the Kasturi Channel on a recent visit to Bangalore and Mysore and found that there are some good programmes telecasted in this channel. Though wide publicity is given through the media, it is not known why the channel is not available in Mangalore. I request the local cable operators to look into this matter and take steps to provide this channel to the viewers in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
