LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Their true colours are out in the open
Sir, The political turmoil in Karnataka has thrown up the true colours of all the three major parties in the State.
BJP could have rejected outright the proposal to join hands with JD(S) again to form the Government. This would have indeed enhanced the esteem of the party in the eyes of the public.

They could have won the next election outright and formed a ministry. But, for the sake of an immediate gain, they lost a golden opportunity to prove that they are a party with a difference. JD(S) played the “secularism card” whenever it suited its purpose.

They lost all credibility and took the decision to join hands with BJP only after they realised that their party would be split, if M P Prakash succeeded in his efforts to forge an alliance with the Congress. In the whole episode Prakash has become a victim through his efforts to form a ministry along with Congress.

Kind act
Sir, This has reference to the news report BJP, Dal set to re - wed, (DH, Oct 28). The Suvarna Karnataka celebrations are scheduled to end on 31st October and Karnataka will enter the 51st year of its glorious history on November 1st. The electorate requests the Governor to install a popular Government in the state on or before 31st October as an honour to Karnataka, Kannadigas and Kannada to enable a Kannadiga Chief Minister to lead the valedictory celebrations.

Restore democracy
Sir, Now that the JD(S) has decided to support BJP, the governor should immediately call the BJP to form a new government. Governors are supposed to be close to the government ruling in the centre, but this should not reflect here in the State resulting in BJP not being called to form the Government. The Governor should take all measures to restore democracy in Karnataka.

Political magic
Sir, Famous magicians like P C Sarkar would be put to disgrace by the wonderful magicians in the political field of Karnataka! They can make a dead man appear alive and  a live man as dead! You cannot believe your own eyes. The political developments in Karntaka have overjoyed some people and shocked their opponents. Nobody had imagined that the BJP would bounce back. But Yediyurappa’s perseverance has helped him to strive for the coveted position of the CM of Karnataka again.

The Wall
Sir, The five “wise” men of Indian cricket have dropped a bombshell; they have omitted India’s most dependable batsman Rahul Dravid from the one day squad. Nobody can replace the stalwart from the test squad; but see who has replaced Rahul: Virender Sehwag! A player struggling to get bat to the ball is in and “The Wall” is out. Grapevine has pointed fingers at Chairman of Selectors Dilip Vengsarkar as the person instrumental in sacking Dravid. “Rest” has become a very convenient word of expression for selectors in showing the door to players who are not to their liking.

A Tehelka
Sir, The Tehelka has done it again. It has shown up Narendra Modi and the Sangh parivar for the henious crimes committed against the minorities and humanity. But the veracity of  a sting operation will be questioned by many considering the recent fake operation in Delhi. Still if The Tehelka revelations holds water, it is high time the concerned agencies and the Supreme Court speeds up the Godhra trial and brings the culprits to book.
