Poompuhar or the Tamil Nadu Handicraft Development Corporation Limited is known for organising several exhibitions for various crafts. This Diwali too they have come out with something unique. The exhibition called the `Festival of lamps and Bronze of South India’ has for you brass lamps and bronze icons. Bronze statues made out of ‘Panchadadu’ similar to that prevalent during Chola, Pallava, Vijayanagara and Hoysala periods are produced in Poompuhar’s own production unit at Swamimalai.
Brass lamps range from Rs 38 to Rs 75,000.The release says each lamp has got it sown speciality. The Ganesh lamps helps in development of business without any hurdles. The Lakshmi lamps help increase wealth and prosperity and the Annam lamps helps in increasing knowledge. The Vasamalai has an interesting belief. Vasamali possesses 27 ‘thagalies’ to synchronise human life which is believed to by controlled by 27 stars.The release adds that these lamps will be fitted in front of the ‘Moolasthanam’ of the temple.
The exhibition has a large collection of Tanjore picture paintings are displayed for sale, price ranging from Rs 3000 to Rs 2,45,000. A special discount is being allowed on all the crafts. The exhibition is open till Nov 7 from 10 am to 8 pm. Poompuhar showroom is located at 104/105, Brigade Road.
