KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge, former chief minister Dharam Singh and party leader H K Patil met Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Sunday evening and held discussions for nearly two hours.
Later speaking to press persons Mr Kharge said, the JD(S) and the BJP have formed an unholy alliance. For the last 15 days, both of them had been criticising each other. JD(S) National President H D Deve Gowda himself had written to the Governor requesting to dissolve the government.
The BJP had withdrawn support to the JD(S). The JD(S) gave advertisements in media alleging that the BJP was against the interests of minorities and deputy chief minister Yeddyurappa submitted budget without the approval of the cabinet.
Mr Kharge said the party submitted copies of newspaper reports, editorials along with quotes form senior advocates to the Governor to substantiate the party’s appeal.
Referring to the statements the BJP and JD(S) joined hands to avoid Congress coming to power, Mr Kharge said that such statements were far from truth. “The Congress party has been telling that it is not interested in forming the government. We wish to come to power on our own”, he said.
On the party’s stand on JD(S) leader M P Prakash’s efforts, Mr H K Patil reacted “Mr Prakash’s issue will be dealt later”.
Congress leaders held a meeting on Sunday morning to discuss how to present their stand on political developments before the Governor. The party leaders authorised Mallikarjun Kharge, Dharam Singh and H K Patil to meet the Governor. Later speaking to press persons, party leader D B Chandre Gowda said that as per the provisions of the Constitution the BJP-JD(S)’ claim to form the government cannot be considered. Both the parties had exchanged allegations in public. As the Assembly is in suspended animation the decision on BJP’s claim to form government should be taken in the Parliament.
