Nissan Motor Co, Japan’s third-largest automaker, plans to make an ultra low-cost car with Bajaj Auto Ltd, CEO Carlos Ghosn said. The company will take a decision in the next few months, Ghosn told reporters in Pune.
It may be recalled that last week Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Nissan and Renault, said that he was hopeful of launching a low-cost compact car in India by 2010 and that the car is likely to be priced between $2,500 and $3,000.
Commenting on the visit, Ghosn said, “After our discussions in Paris, I am here in Pune to further review the proposed Alliance for the ultra low-cost car project with Bajaj. I am confident that this project will continue to advance in a favourable direction for both Bajaj and Renault Nissan Alliance.” MeanwhileRajiv Bajaj said, “Bajaj aspires to add value through product innovation and competitive operations of ‘lite’ vehicles.
