Train rescheduled
Train no 0201 Yeshwanthpur-Guwahati Express Special which was scheduled to leave Yeshwanthpur at 11.55 pm on October 29, has been rescheduled due to the late running of the pairing train. It will leave on October 30 at 9 am.
Besides, the following trains have been diverted/regulated due to heavy rains and water-logging on the Gudur-Vijaywada section. They are: Train no 2835 Hatia-Yeshwanthpur Express and Train no 2863 Howrah-Yeshwanthpur Express will be diverted to run via Guntur, Dhone, Gooty, Renigunta, Tirupati and Katpadi, while Train no 2510 Guwahati-Bangalore Express will be regulated between Vishakapatnam and Vijayawada.
IT staff stir today
The gazetted officers and employees of Income Tax Department across the country will stage a strike on October 30 to press for implementation of a 12-point charter of demands. In view of the strike, returns will not be received and refunds will not be issued. The Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association, however, has decided not to back the strike.
‘Around India’ race
It was a test of mettle on show on October 29 as 16 students battled it out in the third leg of ‘Around India in 96 Hours’, a race across India, organised by Young Indians (Yi), Confederation of Indian Industry.
The race which was held in four locations - Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Goa, had 23 teams with 46 students participating within a span of 96 hours. The teams were put through three challenges that tested their courage, leadership, mental skills, determination and physical strength. Four teams were eliminated at the end points on each day.
The Bangalore leg started from HAL Airport at 8 am, when the 16 students who cleared the Chennai leg were taken to different city challenge spots, including the Shiva temple and Kemp Fort on Airport Road. The four-day race ended in Goa on Monday evening.
Comedy shows After 40 houseful shows of their popular comedy 'Heegadre Hege?', Kriyative Theatre is coming up with yet another comedy, based on the writings of well known Kannada humourist T Sunandamma, by the same team of artistes and technicians.
The new play 'Aadaddella Olithe..?', scripted by Sunder, is also designed and directed by Pramod Shiggaon, while the songs have been written by K.Y.Narayanaswamy. The cast includes well known theatre and television artistes such as Ramakrishna Kannarpadi, Vidya Venkataram and Shilpa Rudrappa. The play will be premiered at Rangashankara on November 2, 3 and 4 at 7.30 pm. There is a matinee show at 3.30 pm on Sunday, Nov 4.
BSNL warning The BSNL has warned customers against private agents approaching its customers in the guise of BSNL employees/ BSNL agents for selling feature phones. It has said that these agents are not from BSNL and has asked the public to insist on BSNL identity card from them.
The BSNL has announced extra free talktime for post-paid cellphone customers who are with BSNL for more than three years as on September 1.
KSRTC job fair held
The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation had organised a job fair for children of KSRTC employees on October 27 and 28 at the MCTC bus terminus on Mysore Road.
KSRTC had circulated registration forms to all its divisions and depots in 15 districts of the state with a direction to all divisional controllers and depot managers to gather details of unemployed youth whose parents are staffers of KSRTC.
Over 20 companies participated in the job fair that saw 10,000 candidates turn up at the event. About 2000 candidates are expected to be selected soon.
A P Joshi, Managing Director, KSRTC and Mohammed Wazir Ahmed, Director (Personnel and Environment) inaugurated the two day fair.
Farmers meet Guv
A delegation of over 1,000 sugarcane growers led by Kurubar Shanthakumar and B G Banakar, former Assembly Speaker from across the State met Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Monday and apprised him of their issues.
According to a statement from Raj Bhavan, the Governor told the group that he had already apprised the Union Minister for Agriculture about the issues faced by sugarcane growers in the State.
UK varsity, Taksha in pact
The University of Teesside, a university in multimedia, animation and gaming in UK has signed an MoU with Takshaa Academy for the Artists, here on Monday.
According to the MoU, the University and Takshaa will offer opportunities to students of Takshaa to study using the best of provisions available in these emerging areas - both while studying in Bangalore, or to study at the university in UK. The course is a three-year programme, said Dr Vidya Shetty, Principal of Takshaa Academy.
Bal Bhavan staff stir
The Karnataka State Jawahar Bal Bhavan Employees’ association will stage a ‘Save Bal Bhavan - Rajbhavan Chalo’ on November 13 in protest against part-privatisation of Bal Bhavan. The rally starts from Bal Bhavan and ends at Raj Bhavan. A memorandum will be submitted to Governor in this regard.
Association president G R Shivashankar on Monday said that the privatisation of Bal Bhavan might deprive underprivileged children. “If they increase the entry fee, children from lower economic groups cannot enjoy benefits,” he said.
