The city’s goldmine area has more than 1000 sinks.
Each sink is at least 2000 feet deep, and to retrieve dead bodies that have fallen into the sink is virtually impossible by anyone else; it is the fire brigade that comes to the rescue.
And in the event of a fire anywhere in the City, it is the task of the fire brigade. These firemen work round the clock; each time they go out to fight a fire, they are not sure whether they will return alive.
And this team does not even have fireproof clothes, boots and other security gear, and many a time, compensation is not provided.
And given the nature of their work, these men cannot strike to make sure that these basic facilities are provided to them. The tag of a necessary service has stifled their voice, as they leave home every day, not sure of returning alive. There are more than 400 villages in the KGF and Bangarpet taluks.
And with just one fire engine at their disposal, the fire brigade finds it extremely difficult to manage. If the fire engine breaks down, fighting fire becomes an impossible task. So, members of the public suggest that an ambulance should be set aside exclusively for the fire brigade.
