The names of 10 Gram Panchayats in the taluk have been recommended for the Nirmala Grama puraskar for 2007-08, said TP EO Dr Sathish Chandra.

He said under Total sanitation drive, Niduvale Gram Panchayat had won the award last year and had received an incentive of Rs 2 lakh. The names of the 10 Gram Panchayats include Hesagal, Nandipura, Chinniga, Banakal, Tharuve, Balur, Javali, Marasanige, Horanadu, Thotadooru. 80 per cent of the houses, anganwadi centres, schools have drinking water and toilet facilities. 

An evaluation team has already inspected the gram panchayats.
