Baluru police station devoid of basic facilities
Mudigere, DHNS:

The taluk boasts of having six police stations in five hoblis, being only one such taluk in Chikmagalur district. Among police stations in Mudigere town, Gonibeedu, Banakal, Kalasa, Kudremukh and Baluru, the police station in Baluru was sanctioned five years and has been functioning without basic amenities since then.

Though more than 20 villages come under the Baluru police station jurisdiction, the nearby Banakal Police Station has been provided all necessary facilities, while the Baluru Police Station has been deprived of the same.

Thirty one police officials attend to duty in the police station, but  they have not been provided quarters for residing. There are over 72 houses in the village and the well-designed police station was constructed during the tenure of Motamma as a minister. At the same time, 20 quarters were sanctioned for construction with an expenditure of Rs 20 lakh. However, the construction work is stranded.

Very few cases get registered in the police station and those registered are related to accidents, quarrels and land disputes.

The staff in the police station spend over Rs 40 lakh as travelling expenses every month. Neither do the staff have much work, nor are they provided facilities. Hence a better option could be to shift the staff to the Banakal Police Station and upgrade the police station while converting the Baluru Police Station into an outpost station in order to cut expenditure of the government.
