Zilla Panchayat members unanimously decided to a write a letter to the government urging to initiate action against those officials for implementing drinking water projects without bringing the matter to the notice of the ZP.
It was decided at a ZP meeting held under the presidentship of Chandramma Manjunath. The issue was raised by the Standing Committee President H M Sathish. He said “drinking water projects worth Rs 70 lakh was approved without consulting the ZP members. Of which Rs 20 lakh has been utilised. In this regard, no discussion was held so far.”
Savitha Ramesh said “government is already planning to curtail the powers of the ZP members. Officials are trying to curtail even the powers with regard to the drinking water.”
Radha Sundaresh said “there should be a probe into all the developmental works undertaken in the district.”
ZP CEO Sundar Naik informed that the drinking water project was approved as the former ZP President had sent a note.
Corruption
The corruption in the education department was also raised in the meeting.
Member B Shivashankar said “DDPI and other officials are involved in taking bribe for transferring the teachers from taluk to another taluk.”
He threatened to hold a dharna in front of DDPI’s office if action is not initiated against the corrupt officials.
