Congress and the nonsensical drama
Sir, Had the JD(S) kept its commitment and handed over power to the BJP on October 3, it would have saved at least its image. The Congress taking advantage of the situation, started playing monkey-sharing bread between two cats with the hope that it can devour the whole bread. Apprehending the ingenious game indulged in by the Congress, the JD(S) made an about turn to support the BJP. Now the Congress has started playing its usual game of “if not me no one else should”.
The Congress now says that this BJP-JD(S) formation is illegal and the Governor should not allow such formation. The Governor is an appointee of the Congress government at the centre and the President also belongs to the Congress party. We cannot expect them to act against the wishes of the high command. Now what is going to happen no one can surmise.

No heroes
Sir, With reference to your editorial on Karnataka politics (DH, Oct 29), it looks an embarrassing and completely brazen chapter has drawn to a close with H D Deve Gowda talking to the BJP president Rajnath Singh, and the two parties deciding to join hands again. There are no real heroes in this episode but the one who has come out looking most silly, if not shame-faced and downright deceitful, is Gowda.

Dissolve it
Sir, The recent political maneuvering and posturing that is being witnessed in Karnataka is unprecedented and will go down in the annals of history as a shameful event.
In all fairness, the actions of some of the current legislators and leaders, cutting across party lines, have made them lose their right to remain as elected representatives of the people of Karnataka under the present term of the Legislative Assembly. In view of the unethical approach to power-clinging taken by the power-mongers, the Governor should boldly recommend the dissolution of the assembly.

Maoist menace
Sir, Maoist attacks on civilian and Government targets in Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal have now become a routine affair. Strangely, although the Prime Minister has described Maoist terrorism as a threat to national security, there is little appreciation of the need to combat this menace in the Government he heads.
The Union Home Ministry, it would seem, is blissfully ignorant of the threat posed by Left extremists and, apart from organising jamborees for State police chiefs, has done precious little by way of fashioning and coordinating a combined assault on Maoists.

Faulty decision
Sir, It is unfortunate that Rahul Dravid has been dropped from the ODI squad for the forthcoming series, more so in this fashion.
He is a team man to the core, if one travels down memory lane, we can see that Dravid had even donned the wicket keeper’s gloves to accommodate another bowler and this speaks volumes of his commitment.
If the recent form was taken into consideration, then in the last few matches Dravid batted lower down the order which did not suit his style of play. The selectors have erred again.
