“The Air Force jets flown from Katunayake airbase engaged the target which has been under air surveillance for a considerable time. The air raid has been launched after real-time ground information revealed a gathering of LTTE intelligence heads around 10.15 a.m at the targeted location,” the Defence Ministry said.
“According to the sources, the targeted location is also a regular visiting place of LTTE’s intelligence chief Pottu Amman and it’s key agents. Fighter pilots have confirmed that the target was effectively engaged,” Defence Ministry claimed, adding that the casualty details of the air strike were yet to be known.
On Monday a group of 21 LTTE suicide cadres launched a massive attack on a key Air Force base at Anuradhapura killing 14 security force personnel and destroying at least eight aircraft. The Air Force, which claimed that its “attack capability has not been reduced due to the LTTE’s Commando-style attack, has regularly been carrying out air strikes since then.
The pro-LTTE Tamilnet website claimed that two civilians were wounded and two houses were destroyed.
