The application filed by the Karnataka government was scheduled to be heard by a bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan on Monday.
The matter was listed for hearing on the request of State government on Friday for urgent hearing due to change of guards in Bangalore. Due to sudden political changes in the State, Karnataka filed another application on Saturday seeking adjournment.
Due to political situation in the State, the contempt petition filed by contractor Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) might be adjourned, the application prayed before the court.
The State under the President’s rule, on Friday had informed the SC that it was taking a fresh look at the BMIC project.
which was the center of controversy between NICE and the erstwhile H D Kumaraswamy regime.
Karnataka government counsel Sanjay Hegde had requested the bench headed by Chief Justice Balakrishnan for an early hearing of the matter due to changes of guard in the state.
“The new administration will take a fresh look at the project,”' Mr Hegde had said.
NICE had filed a contempt plea against the state government alleging that it(government) was putting roadblocks at every stage, causing huge financial loss and delay to the project. On the other hand, the state government had approached the apex court seeking permission for re-bidding on the remaining work of the project pending execution for more than a decade.
