Hyundai Motors India is launching its new car i10 on Wednesday in Delhi and in Mumbai simultaneously. This is a new small car meant for world market but is going to be manufactured primarily at Hyundai’s plant near Chennai.
The i10 will be available in several variants costing between Rs 4 and Rs 5.50 lakh. Top of the line variants will boast anti-lock brakes, twin air bags and even a sun roof. Photographs show it strongly resembling the Suzuki SX4 in front and Honda Jazz from the back and with beige interiors that are currently the rage.
The i10 uses basically the same 1.1 litre petrol engine that powers the Santro and Getz 1.1. This variant is smoother and produces more torque at significantly lower engine speeds thanks to sophisticated electronics including a new engine control module (ECM) running a faster microprocessor. That means that the new car will be much more driveable, particularly in congested traffic, consume less fuel and be more eco-friendly.
The i10 is about the same length as Santro, but is wider and has a broader track, front and rear, giving it better handling and internal shoulder room. Its new suspension also makes it ride as well as its big brother, the Getz.
