Tamil Nadu government has laid down three point agenda to provide a congenial environment for IT & ITES companies to become the No 1 IT destination in the country by 2010.
Briefing reporters here, on Tuesday, Electronic Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (Elcot) Managing Director C Umashankar said, “The three main focus areas are superior infrastructure, quality human reosources and business environment across the state.”
Around 2,340 acres of government land across the state has been earmarked for development of IT industries and Rs 100 crore has been allocated to Elcot for infrastructure development, Mr Umashankar said.
“Tamil Nadu is promoting Tier II cities like Madurai, Tiruchy including Hosur,” he added. Guidance Bureau Director M Velmurugan said the state has attracted a total investment of Rs 15,000 crore within the first 10 months of the current financial year in IT, electronics and automobile sector.
New players
Further, Mr Velumurugan pointed out that out of seven automobile manufacturers present in the state two are going to expand their existing manufacturing capacities and a new player would enter the field soon.
Mr Umashankar said, “We want to empower the students with right skills which will enable them to seek employment soon after completion of their studies.”
Mr Umashankar also pointed out that Elcot, in collaboration with six IT companies including CTS, Wipro, TCS has been conducting a series of training programmes to train the trainers of the colleges.
