Plan Reaches Pruning Stage
New Delhi, Oct. 30.
The Planning Commission met today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nehru to review the foreign exchange position of the Plan to the context of Finance Minister Krishnamachari’s report on his mission to Washington, London and Bon.
Though Mr Krishnamachari’s report is considered as neither pessimistic nor optimistic, the Commission is stated to have come to the conclusion that the stage for pruning the Plan has arrived.
Students’ Agitation Takes Ugly Turn
Bangalore, Oct. 30.
University students’ agitation against the enhancement of tuition and examination fees, took an ugly turn during the demonstration by a batch of over 500 students before the Vidhana Soudha this afternoon.
The Revenue Minister’s car, a police jeep and a Residency car were stoned and damaged.

Akalis Ready For Talks With Centre

Chandigarh, Oct. 30.
Barring last minute hitch the Akalis are understood to have agreed to resume their negotiations with the Centre on their demands.
The credit for persuading the Akalis after a six-month impasse, goes to the Prime Minister’s Special Emissary Swaran Singh who in the course of six hours meeting spread over two days removed all apprehensions of the Akali leadership.
