Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can help by reaching out to rural population by providing real-time information and remote services where the drawbacks of physical infrastructure can be felt. Nearly 80 per cent of the population lies in the category which earn less than $2 per day.
S Sivakumar, Chief Executive, ITC - International Business Division, said, “Opportunities in this space are immense, but only if we use technology integrated with a business model rather than a services model.”
Mismatch
Rajdeep Sahrawat, Leadership Team, NASSCOM said, “The main problem with IT adoption is that IT is deployed but not where it is actually required.” According to him, micro and small firms should be nursed.
K S Vishwanathan, Chief Executive India Geography, Wipro Infotech said, “The biggest opportunity provider is the e-governance space.”
If all core departments of government are to be integrated, e-procurement made reality and all applications done online, need for IT services will go up tremendously, he said.
